Quebec SPA: Farms to protect cats

The Quebec Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) has come up with a new solution to protect cats from being reunited with their frightened or aggressive farm environment.

In addition to saving the lives of cats, the farm cat adoption program helps farmers.

“We are animal lovers. At the same time we are able to meet the constant need, we can save the animals,” said Helen Laverdier, who adopted three cats from the Quebec SPA last spring, thanks to the program.

For 30 years, cats have been part of the Decor at the Equestrian Center in Saint-Emile.

“We always have cats. They are constantly, mainly hunting insects,” she explains.

Six months ago, the Quebec SPA set up a solution for badly reacting cats to provide shelter.

The idea so far has made it possible to keep 64 frightened or aggressive cats on large farm areas.

Although this is the last option, the solution has long been uncomfortable.

“It’s not because we don’t have good weather for these animals, it’s because the animals don’t have good weather,” said Felix Tremple, president of the Quebec Animal Center.

An “excellent” solution

For Mrs. Loverdier, the sterilization of her cats is not debatable. And the deadline for this type of operation is getting longer. “Since the epidemic, it has become very difficult to make an appointment to sterilize a cat. It is everywhere,” she stressed.

The FarmCat Adoption Program provides free sterilized, microchiped and vaccinated cats to farmers.

Hole in the budget

To get the “off ground” program, free chats are required. If all goes as planned, about $ 30,000 will be invested by the end of the year.

Quebec SPA has received lottery approval for “farm kitten” funding as a priority.

“Loto-Animaux” allows you to win eight travel credits for $ 3,500.
