After the disappearance of the “n-word”, are we seeing the disappearance of the “f-word” from Radio-Canada?

This is a question we can ask ourselves as journalist Angie Landry of the Crown Corporation uses the expression “people with a uterus” instead of “women” in a report on vaccine effects.

A columnist or host plays with this Orwellian vocabulary to look good with the awakened community, and that’s one thing. If they guessed them, they could say better.

But a journalist resorting to “newspeak” in a factual report is troubling.

Where are the women?

Even on Radio-Canada, host Isabelle Craig boldly wrote: “No! I’m not a “womb guy”, no offense to my colleague(s). And no, saying that doesn’t make me transphobic or homophobic.” She later deleted her tweet, adding, “No pressure. [s]an owner”.

As the news erupted, a veritable outcry, Radio-Canada retracted, removing the expression “people with wombs” and even publishing a box explaining: “These formulations may imply a reduction of women’s identity to biological terms. Not intended.”

The problem is that Radio-Canada, on its box, never mentions the deleted expression. It’s even weirder!

Luckily I took a screenshot of the first version of the text. With Radio-Canada, you can never be too careful…

This practice of replacing “woman” with “person with uterus” to avoid offending transgender or non-binary people is not only ridiculous, it’s hypocritical.

Do you know a single person who expresses that in his daily life? Even the most awake man, in a moment of panic, will say, “Going to run away from a man with a uterus in the street!” »

During Alain Desjardins, can you imagine if we presented a program called On Television? People with advanced uterus ?

Change the name of Michel Tremblay’s novel: A fat woman with a uterus next to her is pregnant ? What to say about this great classic of Quebec cinema: Two men with a golden womb ?

What if we applied the same method to men? We no longer use the term man and replace it with “the man with the prostate.”

Don’t be fooled

If we remove the word woman from our vocabulary, we remove the presence of women in public space. The minister responsible for the status of women is the Conseil du stat de la femme and how can we talk if we eliminate the term “feminism” or “femicide”?
