The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) announced on Friday that rapid COVID-19 screening tests will be implemented in 10 areas in Quebec. Initially, this type of testing was to be implemented in four red light districts in the Greater Montreal area.
In total, nearly 1,600 preschools and elementary schools will benefit from the rapid exams.
The MRCs of Marisi, Center-du-Quebec, Estre, Montreal, Laval, Lanaudier, Laurentides and Montereggie, as well as Beau-Sertigan, Appalach మరియుs and Etchimins de Choudhury-Appalach receive rapid tests. These sectors are at high risk of spreading and support MSSS.
“After the implementation of the screening tool in these 10 areas, the expansion will continue in all primary schools in Quebec in a few weeks,” MSSS said in a press release.
Since Monday, rapid tests have been used in schools in the Saint-Michel, Park-Extension and Montreal-Nord districts of Montreal, as well as in Chomedi in Laval.
In addition to rapid testing, schools are provided with personal protective equipment to ensure the safety of those conducting the test. They are used for students who develop symptoms similar to COVID-19 during the school day. Rapid tests provide results in 15 minutes.
