Evan Peters reveals why he decided to accept the role of Jeffrey Dahmer
Evan Peters faced an internal struggle to accept the role of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
In a joint interview with series creator Ryan Murphy for Variety, the actor admitted that his trust in his collaborator ultimately convinced him to tackle the role.
“It’s a real struggle. I really thought about it and tried to do it. I went back and forth in my head a lot. I know you bring a great support system, I trust you, and I’m honest. To finish this thing as hard as I started it, you create a big safety net. I know. If I fall, I can get back up and we can complete this project. I am up for the challenge,” he revealed.
In addition to the mental toil he put into playing Dahmer, Evan Peters also transformed physically for the role, starting a diet with no carbohydrates or sugar to lose six pounds.
Despite receiving his first Golden Globe nomination for his role, Evan Peters has revealed that he hopes to land more fun roles in the future. “I’m going to take a little break from dark characters and explore the light. It’s interesting for me to play something a little closer, a little more mundane, and explore the details of such experiences,” he explained.
Evan Peters and Ryan Murphy have worked together on several seasons of American Horror Story since 2011. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story premiered on Netflix in September.
