(Ottawa) The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people not to eat our Fathers Farm brand “very bitter apricot kernels”.
This product contains high amounts of amygdalin, which can cause severe cyanide poisoning according to a notice issued by the CFIA.
Amygdalin is a naturally occurring toxin that is released after taking cyanide.
“The human body can remove small amounts of cyanide, but large amounts of cyanide can lead to poisoning, which can lead to death,” the agency said in a statement.
The CFIA asks anyone who believes they are ill to consult a doctor after taking this product.
Retailers, restaurants and companies are urged not to sell or use the bitter apricot kernels of our Fathers Farm brand.
