[Société] Dengue fever: The onset of relapse

From February 1 to 7, 2021, 73 dengue cases were reported to the ARS in 9 municipalities on the island. The first groups of cases found at Port and St.-Joseph are still active.

With the current weather conditions (heat and rain), the increase in the spread of dengue fever and its geographical deflection will increase the fears of the re-emergence of the epidemic.

Also, Prefecture and the regional health organization La Reunion reminds us of the importance of fighting dengue fever by implementing preventive measures: protect yourself and those around you from mosquito bites, remove anything that has water around his house and see the doctor if symptoms appear.

  • St. Joseph
  • St. Louis
  • Port
  • Ownership
  • Saint-Benoit
  • St. Pierre

In addition, groups of cases (dengue prevalence) have been identified:

  • Port (Sotech, Manes, L’Appointment, Old Town, Swimming Pool, ZAC-1, ZUP)

To prevent the spread of the dengue virus, ARS vector control teams are conducting mosquito control interventions.

> Recommendations to fight dengue

In addition to vector control techniques, preventive measures must be taken to prevent everyone from contracting the disease and those around them:

  • Protect yourself and those around you from mosquito bites: repellents, mosquito nets, long clothes, diffusers
  • Eliminate breeding grounds: Empty anything that has water around your home
  • Consult a doctor if symptoms (fever, headache, muscle / joint pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, etc.) occur. Your doctor will prescribe a sample to be taken in the lab for medical tests to confirm the diagnosis of dengue.

This biological diagnosis is necessary to guide the actions of vector control groups and to limit the spread of dengue virus in the territory.
