Strong demand for Ottawa anticipated passports

(Ottawa) As the U.S. border reopens to vaccinated travelers on November 8, the federal government is preparing to accept more passport applications.

Read a statement from Employment and Social Development Canada that “as travel restrictions are lifted, service Canada will increase demand for passport services.”

The department’s website says people can get their passports 20 days after applying to the service Canada, but some people report waiting just under a month.

Ahmed Hussain, Minister for Families, Children and Social Development, and Press Secretary Michael Harrison said the government was closely monitoring the increase in demand.

She said the government has protocols to continue to provide passport services to Canadians on service standards.

Emergency passport services are available throughout the epidemic, but as borders are closed and public health measures are in place, many do not need them.

Service Canada issued more than 2.3 million passports the year before the outbreak, but only 363,225 the following year.

Demand is already on the rise with 467,541 passports issued this year as of September 30th.

The Canadian government is still advising against unwanted travel outside the country as there is a risk of COVID-19 being transmitted abroad.

According to the World Research Organization, Tourism Economics, as vaccination rates around the world increase, so does the confidence of travelers.

“We expect further easing of sanctions and increased passenger confidence, and we expect international arrivals to return to pre – crisis levels by 2024,” the company’s Global Travel Service report from June 2021 said.

The company expects international travel to be 59% lower than it was before the crisis, but says there is significant demand.

Meanwhile, the government is reporting higher than average call volumes for passport applications and urges people not to visit Service Canada offices unless absolutely necessary.

The government has also extended the eligibility period for renewals, so passports 1 or more have expiredIs February 2019 can be renewed.

This way, Canadians can wait to renew their passport and wait until they really want to leave the country.
