Supremes co-founder American singer Mary Wilson has died at the age of 76, her agent said.
She died Monday at her home in Las Vegas, Jay Schwartz was quoted by several American media as saying the cause of death was not immediately known.
Mary Wilson co-founded the group in Detroit for 15 years and continued the adventure long after Diana Ross left.
“My condolences to Mary’s family, remind me that every day is a gift. I have so many wonderful memories of the time we spent together. Supremes live in our hearts,” Diana Ross tweeted Tuesday.
Mary Wilson is “a pioneer, a diva and she misses a lot” says Berry Gordy, the inventor and producer of “Motown Sound”, which is behind the group’s many successes.
A few days ago, Mary Wilson posted a short video on YouTube marking ‘Black History Month’, announcing “great news about Supreme, Florence Ballard and content. Unpublished”.
Born in 1944 in Greenville, Mississippi, Mary Wilson was raised by her uncle and aunt before moving to Detroit with her mother when she was 12 years old.
