Montreal firefighters were forced to urgently evacuate tenants from a 30-unit block due to the risk of electrocution and collapse in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.
At around 1 p.m., the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) was called to the building at the intersection of rue Saint-Hubert and avenue Roy for water flowing around it.

Firefighters on the spot also found that the building was in danger of collapsing.

According to SIM, about 50% of the building’s 30 apartments are residential, including commercial premises on the ground floor.
The Red Cross reached the scene to provide shelter and food aid to the victims for 72 hours.
“At the moment, nine families representing eleven people have been taken care of,” Red Cross spokesman Jean-Sebastien Parizeau said.
