The mayors of the Northern Crown ask for their REM station

Many officials elected from the northern crown of Montreal are demanding that the route of the future Eastern Metropolitan Express Network (REM) be extended to the other side of the Riviere des Prairies.

“We see a great opportunity to address mobility issues in a sustainable way in the extension of the Eastern REM. When it comes to public transportation, the cities of Moscow, Terrebone and Ripentigni are served by a train station from each east. However, the line is rarely used, but exits are limited at maximum times.

“When we want to compare Eastern train services with what REM represents, this is really the future mode, where there will be rush hour service every 10 minutes. We will be able to travel longer distances,” Ms Deschamps explained.

The government responds

“We are taking action in a number of areas. The historic Eastern REM project will benefit the customers of the Northern Crown by drastically reducing travel time,” Florence Florde, email secretary to Transport Minister Franకోois Bonardell, said.

She also cited the Metropolitan Network of Reserve Lance Project, work on expanding A-19 and the project to establish a reserved lane on A-15 as an example of what the government is doing in response to requests for the Northern Crown.

“All these projects will change the face of dynamism in the North Crown by reducing congestion and significantly improving public transport services,” she said.
