Vale Esposito is studying fifth grade at Lower Lab School in Manhattan. The 10-year-old Upper East Cider surpassed 60 other New York children to win a place in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, scheduled for May 24-29 in Maryland.
One of my favorite words is Coffeecatch, which is a conversation about coffee. I hoped I could get a chance to spell this out in the TV round at Scripps National Spelling Bee. Now I pronounce it at home.
I worked really hard to win and practiced words for 30 minutes every day. I am a type of flower and I have won the city bee with a word Wanda spell I have never seen before. I had to find it on the spot.
I left the cup with too much to carry. My school was very excited about winning. The Chancellor threw a popcorn party for my friends and me.
My classmates are having dinner watching the national bee. When it was canceled, my heart froze for a moment, and my mind didn’t know what to do. I still don’t understand why they didn’t push it early next year. This is very frustrating. I was looking forward to staying at a hotel in Maryland, visiting DC, and participating in a dance with other competitors.
The corona virus has carried a lot.
But I would have dinner at home. One of my favorite words is Crookambuch – a tower of French pastries that look like donuts. We could be one of the guests.
