Vale Esposito is studying fifth grade at Lower Lab School in Manhattan. The 10-year-old Upper East Cider surpassed 60 other New York children to win a place in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, scheduled for May 24-29 in Maryland.

One of my favorite words is Coffeecatch, which is a conversation about coffee. I hoped I could get a chance to spell this out in the TV round at Scripps National Spelling Bee. Now I pronounce it at home.

I worked really hard to win and practiced words for 30 minutes every day. I am a type of flower and I have won the city bee with a word Wanda spell I have never seen before. I had to find it on the spot.

I still don’t understand why they didn’t push it early next year. This is very frustrating. I was looking forward to staying at a hotel in Maryland, visiting DC, and participating in a dance with other competitors.

The corona virus has carried a lot.
