Six months after revealing the first photo of the model, Cadillac recently gave a nearly complete rendering of its optic, entry-level electric crossover. Still competitive with its standard all-wheel drive and projected autonomy, its popularity will grow exponentially.
Along with its decidedly Cadillac design with its cascading diodes and pillar-hugging rear lights, the Optiq shares most of its dimensions with the Chevrolet Equinox EV. At 4.8 meters long, including a wheelbase of almost 3 meters, it is sized between the CR-V and the Honda Pilot.
Only one mechanical configuration is offered by the manufacturer, namely a standard all-wheel drive system with two electric motors producing a total of 300 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. In short, the Equinox with all-wheel drive makes a little more (12 hp and 21 lb-ft) than the EV, arguably justifying its hierarchical rank and making up for the weight difference.
Regardless, the Optiq still benefits from a range of 482 km from the 85 kWh Ultium battery. When plugged into apparently compatible fast charging stations, charging power peaks at 150 kW. More details, including pricing, will be known before production begins in the fall.
