There are no plastic containers at McDonald’s

Wooden utensils are officially entering every McDonald’s restaurant in Canada, the fast food chain said Thursday.

All single-use plastic items, except McFlory spoons, will be replaced with utensils or wooden sticks by next December. Straws are now made of paper.

McDonald’s is committed to sourcing all consumer packaging from renewable, recycled or certified resources in order to reduce its environmental package.

“McDonald’s Canada is part of Canadian Fiber, serving more than three million customers each day at more than 1,400 restaurants. We play a key role in reducing single – use plastic use in Canada,” said Rob Dick, McDonald’s Canada Supply Chain Manager.

McDonald’s Canada removes about 840 tons of plastic from its company each year by removing plastic containers, coffee sticks and straw from its restaurants.

In 2019, McDonald’s Canada launched 20% small paper napkins in its restaurants. Since they are made with 100% recycled fiber, this change eliminates 900 tons of paper.
