(New York) Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that aerospace company SpaceX and social network will move their headquarters to California.
“This is the last straw,” the founder wrote, justifying his decision by citing the text “and many others before it” and “an attack on families and businesses.”
The text, signed into law by California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday, aims to protect the rights of transgender students and fight discrimination.
In particular, it prohibits school personnel from disclosing information about a student's sexual orientation or gender identity to anyone without the prior consent of the person concerned.
This ban also worries the student's parents.
“A year ago I made it clear to Governor Newsom that laws like this would force families and businesses to leave California to protect their children,” explained Elon Musk.
SpaceX is currently headquartered in Hawthorne and X is headquartered in San Francisco.
The first is Starbase near Brownsville in southeast Texas, which Elon Musk said will be moved to the SpaceX industrial complex.
As for the X, it will move from California to Austin, where Tesla's headquarters are already located, in 2021.
At the time, Elon Musk cited the California law by Gavin Newsom and preventive measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic to justify his decision.
