Controversial MP Randall Hillier was arrested in Ottawa on Monday morning.
The Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MP, who sits as an independent candidate in Queens Park, has backed popular opposition and ‘Freedom Conway’ protesters for health measures put in place to fight COVID-19.
In March, his Twitter account was suspended, especially through the social network, due to his publications on the vaccine. The 64-year-old MP has been talking regularly about conspiracy theories about the origins of the vaccine or virus.
Last February, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Mr. Hillier said the investigation was launched after several complaints over the tweets. He advised his subscribers to call 911 heavily to bypass the phone lines to disrupt the police operation to end the Ottawa siege.
In a statement released Monday, OPS said Hillier would face nine counts for actions taken during the convoy of truckers. He is particularly accused of rioting, obstructing property, advising on unpunished criminal activity, obstructing the work of a peace officer and assaulting a peace officer.
The MP is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
