Goya Food items, the Latino foodstuff big, soared to the leading of Twitter’s trending topics Thursday right after its CEO heaped praise on President Donald Trump, prompting many of its prospects to say they would boycott the small business in mild of the president’s background of vilifying Hispanics.
In remarks at the Rose Garden, Goya Meals CEO Robert Unanue mentioned that the state is “truly blessed” to be below Trump’s management, and he when compared the president to his Spanish immigrant grandfather.
“We’re all actually blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder,” explained Unanue, who has led the household-owned foodstuff corporation given that 2004. “And that is what my grandfather did. He came to this country to develop, to expand and to prosper. And we have an extraordinary builder and we pray, we pray for our leadership, our president and for our state, that we carry on to prosper and to grow.”
The remarks came following a roundtable dialogue between Trump and Hispanic leaders before the president signed an government order called the White House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative.
Twitter exploded with remarks pointing out Trump’s persistent history of racist rhetoric toward America’s Hispanic group. Amid those to voice their intention to boycott the enterprise ended up Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and previous Housing Secretary Julián Castro.
