Vaccination of young people in Montreal is lagging behind

The Integrated Health and Social Services Centers are working hard to increase the vaccination rate in some backward areas in Montreal.

In the province on average, 63% of children between the ages of 5 and 11 have received at least one dose of the Kovid-19 vaccine.

In Montreal, the average drops to almost 50%; However, in environments such as Saint-Leonard, only 27% of children receive primary care.

“Today, we are intensifying efforts to make this administration of the second dose really easier and to manage anxiety in our toddlers. We want them to have a great vaccination experience so that it will be easier for the next dose, ”said Caroline Saint-Denis, director of vaccination at CIUSSS de l’est-de-l’il-de-Montreal.

Clowns for vaccination

To provide a great experience for the 1,000 children who took the appointment on Saturday, CIUSSS called on doctors dressed as clowns to provide rest for young children.

“It’s all the difference between vaccinating our doctor clowns, virtual reality glasses or dog Meera for a vaccine in a funny, more humorous environment. Getting the right experience for the first dose and the second dose, ”explains the director.

A walk-in offer will also be offered to parents who want to enroll their young children in the next few hours.
