A rapper who claims to be paying homage to a legendary New York City hip-hop group did not record a flamethrower being shot from above an occupied city bus. “
The Bystander video, taken in Brooklyn earlier this month, caught the attention of social media on Tuesday, leaving the city less secure after a police union tweeted it. The police department said it was investigating the November 8 incident.
The city transport company said in an Instagram post that the rapper was filming a video tribute to the Wu-Tang clan, a popular hip-hop group in New York City.
Dupree, who also claims to be the god of flames, posted drone footage of the attempt. In a previous Instagram post, he invited people to the area for ice cream, t-shirts and champagne. A message asking for comment was left with Dupree.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said 25 passengers on the bus were discharged at the next stop and boarded the next bus on that route. No injuries were reported.
“Needless to say, this is absurd, dangerous and simply stupid,” said MTA spokesman Tim Minton. “The careless man who shot at the occupied bus put the New Yorkers in mortal danger, including the bus operator.”
