The Joker from the Batman
What’s better than starting this list than Gotham’s clown prince of crime? With many iconic performances by the likes of the late Heath Ledger from Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy to Joaquin Phoenix from the dark and gritty “Joker” of 2019, this iconic character from the DC comics has become a staple for Batman fans owing to his never-ending duel with the Dark Knight.
The character was presented in one of the film’s concluding sequences, albeit just for a few seconds with Paul Dano’s “Riddler” persona. Filmmaker Matt Reeves confirmed the existence of a sequence between the Joker and the Batman in Arkham Asylum just after the film’s release, which he opted to keep out of the finished film. Matt Reeves took his time deciding who would play the new Joker, especially given how recent Joaquin Phoenix’s performance was. When Heath Ledger received the Academy Award for his performance in “The Dark Knight”, he established a stupidly high bar. Gorr the God Butcher from Thor: Love and Thunder
The God of Thunder is finally coming back to the big screen for his fourth solo excursion, following a much-needed narrative overhaul in 2017’s spectacular Thor: Ragnarok. Rather than Cate Blanchett playing Hela, Thor’s sibling and the Goddess of Death, famed actor Christain Bale will play the role of Gorr the God Butcher.
Gorr is from an unnamed world where water scarcity, famine, tremors, and other perils are quite common. Gorr, on the other hand, is optimistic that the Gods will intervene to rescue his people. Gorr is forced to fend for himself after burying his parents at an early age and his own family later in life. As a result of his pleas not being answered, Gorr concludes that the Gods are not real. However, after watching two gods fighting, he becomes enraged and embarks on a journey to murder all of the gods in the cosmos in retaliation for all he has lost.
Evil Doctor Strange from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
The evil incarnation of Doctor Strange was revealed in the fourth episode of What If…? on Disney +, as this parallel side of the protagonist turned evil after many efforts to utilise wizardry to avert his fiancée, Palmer’s death, as previewed in the post-credits sequence of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although it’s unclear how much of him will appear in the movie, Doctor Strange Supreme is quite likely to have long-term consequences for the rest of the MCU.
Karshon from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Fans will have to wait till the end of the year to grab the action of the highly anticipated sequel to Aquaman. Most of the main cast will remain, but the film will also include two new antagonists. Stingray will be played by Jani Zhao, while Karshon will be played by Indya Moore. Karshon is built on a comic book villain, whereas Stingray looks to be based on a DC hero.
Karshon, who is best known as a Green Lantern adversary, has a unique origin story. Karshon was previously a tiger shark that rose to power instead of a human or extra-terrestrial. Karshon, like King Shark, got a hyper-developed brain and certain human traits after being subjected to a nuclear explosion. Karshon can subsist both on land and in the oceans and possesses superhuman strength and endurance. Karshon also has greater mind manipulation abilities in the comics, which is noteworthy. They are able to detect fear and display images of the things that a person is most afraid of. They can also shoot energy from their foreheads, fly, and have razor-sharp teeth. It’ll be fascinating to see which of the character’s skills survive the film.
Baron Mordo from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
2016’s Doctor Strange not only introduced the audience to the Sorcerer Supreme but also Baron Karl Mordo, a veteran Marvel villain in the comic books. In the films, Mordo played by Chiwetel Ejiofor was a friend and mentor to Strange and also a disciple to the Ancient One. He was last seen in a post-credit scene where he had embarked on a mission to consume every sorcerer in the world and consume their powers. Mordo is slated to make a comeback in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
According to the comics, Mordo was born in a Transylvanian noble family. He started showing an inclination towards Black Magic, after which he travelled to Tibet to train under the Ancient One. However, Mordo’s lust for power began to grow but shortly after Strange appeared at the monastery and ruined his plans to kill the Ancient One. This turned them into bitter rivals.
