When McDonald’s releases new menu items, it’s always a party day at Bag of Chips.

Our brand identity is strongly rooted in our passion for all kinds of snacks, fast food and junk food.

That’s why the arrival of the Chicken Big Mac to Canada was considered the second coming of Christ (if Christ was breaded and covered in Big Mac sauce).

On Tuesday, our boss Benoit wrote to us on Slack that that day was the day the new sandwich entered the menu at the restaurant with the Golden Arches, which was not already written in our calendars. Pffff.

Philip, the writer of these lines, had already planned to order PBM for dinner, thus satisfying his two passions, eating McDow and not doing his homework.

At 7:12 p.m., Amadou, of a delivery company starting with “D,” dropped off a bag containing a trio of Chicken Big Macs and a Classic Big Mac (for comparison) outside his door.

The first observation is that the packaging is still pleasing to the eye. Like its classic counterpart, the Chicken Big Mac comes in a brown cardboard box that really lets the grease stains show (how do you know it’s good).

The burger is similar to beef, except that the cow is swapped out for chicken. Special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on sesame bread.

So how does the new variant compare to the world’s most famous burger?

ok

By keeping the same ratio of ingredients, you really lose the flavor of the chicken. With beef, it works, but there, it tastes like sauce. Also, the sauce softens the chicken bread a little, adding a layer of softness without being crunchy. Also, the club formula (3 slices of bread) yields less for breaded items.

If we want to adapt the formula, we need to make it better with some changes. Low sauce ratio, etc.

Of course, it’s still good, but it begs the question, “Why do I eat more than a Big Mac?”

Final score: 6/10
