School bus drivers affiliated with CSN believe they are being “cheated” by the transporters and are refusing to pay them a “good salary”.
In an interview with LCN, the president of school transportation at CSN, Josie Dubey, confirmed that her members are fed up with the carriers' attitude of not being able to offer carriers “better conditions and a decent percentage” raise.
Ms. Dubé indicated that carriers received a “major improvement in their contracts” in 2022. This has not translated into a satisfactory salary increase for employees demanding a “good percentage” raise.
School bus drivers across Quebec have been campaigning for months for better pay and better working conditions.
In Estrie, Sogesco recently put its employees on lockdown.
a ghost
Josie Dubey lamented the government's inaction.
“We have the opinion that the minister [ Bernard Drainville] A ghost, she said. It is not visible at all. On the other hand, he should do it. […] We are not done with school transport problems. Something unhealthy is happening. We have Transco, Transdev, Sozesco. These are large boxes that hold columns of numbers. Profit margin is important to them.”
The salaries of bus drivers should be increased,” she said. Big companies are making profits and the government is doing nothing. Also [centres de services scolaires] They said they couldn't do anything because they had a contract with the carrier. It is not true that they cannot do anything.
Josie Dubey insists drivers will not leave before they get better pay.
“We stop when we reach a good solution, and we continue when we know we're being taken advantage of by carriers,” she concluded.
