When to tip and how much? According to a new survey by Research Co., there is no consensus among Canadians on these questions.

One-third (33%) of Canadians believe that food servers deserve a tip in all cases, even if the service they provided is poor. Conversely, more than three in ten Canadians (31%) say they would not leave a tip if they received below-average service at a table-service restaurant when their server was clearly not busy.
Tip for food to eat?
Should we leave an extra amount when we prepare our meals to take home or order at a restaurant without table service? According to the results obtained in the survey of the Canadian organization, these questions are not unanimous.
More than half of Canadians (53%) say they never tip when they visit a take-out snack bar, and more than two in five (49%) when they visit a cafeteria-style restaurant say they never tip when they visit a restaurant where they order food. Choose themselves (48%) or a cafe (43%).
Regardless, a majority of people (70%) agree that “food servers don’t just get by on their salary, tipping them is important.”
The study was conducted online from December 10-12 among 1,000 adults in Canada.
