After a third full weekend of closure, the Quebec bridge reopened in both directions as of 5:30 a.m. Monday. However, work this week and into September will present other obstacles.
On this third weekend of closure, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD) has left some space for maneuvering this Monday morning.
Northbound traffic will resume at 5:30 a.m., but southbound traffic is planned to reopen “by 2 p.m. at the latest.”
Finally, both barriers were lifted at 5:30 a.m., confirming the normal operation of Chaudière-Appalaches.
However, this is not the end of disruptions for users, as a complete overnight bridge closure is still possible this week, according to the Quebec 511 platform.
Additionally, last Friday, MTMD stated in a press release that “other weekend and weekday night closures of the Quebec bridge can be anticipated during the months of August and September 2024.”
For several weeks the Ministry has not hidden the fact that other similar closures “may” occur in September to “continue work”.
However, no new closures have been confirmed by MTMD at this time.
Note that road traffic on the Quebec bridge was disrupted on several occasions in August, notably on three consecutive weekends.
MTMD is currently performing work on the roadway of Route 175 as part of a project to rebuild the interchanges north of the Pierre-Laporte and Quebec bridges.
