Russia Today Broadcast in Canada: Ottawa explores "all options"

Pablo Rodriguez, the Canadian Minister of Heritage, assured that the federal government was looking at “all options” regarding the right of the Russian international news channel Russia Today to broadcast in Canada.

“I share the concerns of many Canadians about the presence of Russia Today in our broadcasting system. We are exploring all options,” he tweeted on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Canada’s Conservative Party leader Candice Bergen demanded that the Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) apply for an order to withdraw Russia Today from Canadian Airwaves.

Many European countries are considering suspending the broadcasting rights of a channel funded by the Russian state in response to the Ukraine invasion. YouTube announced on Saturday that it was temporarily suspending the media’s ability to monetize its content on the platform.

Recall that in August 2020 the French-speaking branch of Russia Today authorized the CRTC for distribution in Canada.
