Sue Montgomery has ordered a new trial in a harassment case

C -te d’Ivoire – Notre Dame-de-Greece, Supreme Court judge on Friday ordered a new trial in the harassment case of Mayor Sue Montgomery.

Citing a flaw in the law, Justice Labrie Montreal ruled that a new trial be held in the case of Robert Michael Edgar, who had faced and harassed Sue Montgomery for years.

“The trial judge’s conclusion on the lack of fear is based on myths and stereotypes and therefore she made a mistake in the law,” the verdict reads.

Justice Labrie particularly questioned the use of video taken by the defendants during the altercation with Mr.^{To me} Montgomery in front of the church where she practices in March 2018.

“The weight given by the trial judge to the March 18, 2018 video will clearly lead this court to conclude that it is based on myths and stereotypes and that it has tampered with other evidence to support the conclusion that the plaintiff fears for his safety.”

The appeal represents the Quebec court’s acquittal of the accused and the verdict that he was guilty of harassment, but that he was not guilty.

Robert Michael Edgar‌ was sentenced to three years in prison for failing to comply with his release conditions and to suspend all ties with Sue Montgomery.
