Of all the Canadian provinces, this is Quebec Who is struggling with the worst labor shortage problem. The situation we were in during the period of rapid decontamination was all terrible.
Numbers? At the end of last March, there were 181,030 vacancies, according to the latest data from Statistics Canada. This record level represents 5.1% of all jobs available in Quebec.
By the same token, Quebec has the highest vacancy rate in the country. Overall in Canada, by comparison, the job vacancy rate is 4.1%, a percentage point lower than here. Among our neighbors in Ontario, the vacancy rate is only 3.7%.
It’s getting worse from month to month
Unfortunately, Quebec’s labor shortages have worsened since the first quarter of 2020, the end of which coincided with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
There were 128,410 vacancies in Quebec at that time.
One year later, the number of vacancies rose from 52,620 to 181,030. 41% for a huge increase.
Take care of the problem. At the end of last March, we were still under control. The number of unemployed is 323,500 and despite this large number of unemployed, there are 181,030 vacancies.
With the great deconfirmation that has just begun across the province, the number of vacancies is likely to increase even more significantly.
Hence the cries of alarm, especially by the Employers Council and the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses.
Legal Denigries Angled
Francois Legalt will solve our problem of labor shortage not by rejecting Dominic Angled, a liberal leader who teaches in favor of solid immigration to fill some of the vacancies.
As we know, since coming to power, the Legalt government has slowed immigration. In its first full year, in 2019, net international migration fell by 10,649, ending this year with 34,195 immigrants.
This is the lowest net international migration in 16 years since 2003.
Clearly, due to the epidemic, we should not count the year 2020 as attracting more immigrants to Quebec. Net international migration ended in 2020 with only 23,601 immigrants.
Immigration, Essential
In order to solve the problem of labor shortage in the long run, the Legalt government should use the idea that solid migration is part of the solution.
It would be a mistake to believe that the defenders of solid immigration aimed to replace the lowest paid jobs that escape Quebec workers.
To think so is a reduction, Prime Minister Franకోois Legalt లె has no offense.
One thing is for sure, Quebec is facing a very serious labor shortage problem.
All solutions are welcome whether it is an increase in immigration, an increase in remuneration, an acceleration in training, an increase in skills. Etc. Etc.
