Pay a day for goaltenders in the NHL

Goalkeepers Carter Hart, Ilia Samsonov and Igor Chesterkin all signed new contracts with their respective teams on Monday.

In the case of Hart, the young goalie secured his future in Pennsylvania, where the Philadelphia Flyers gave him a three-year contract that would earn him $ 3.979 million a year.

Selected in the second round of the 2016 National Hockey League (NHL) Draft, Hart quickly settled into a future Flyers goaltender. He started his journey with the team with 20 in 2018-19 and became a man of confidence on the net the following year.

This year, however, he fell short, as evidenced by his 9-11-5 record, 3.67 goals-average and .877 save efficiency rate. His head instructor Alain Vignalt also exempted him from training for a while so that he could focus on his technique in training.

A short deal for Samsonov

At Washington Capitals, Samsonov signed a one-season deal that would earn him $ 2 million.

The 24-year-old Russian is a free agent and can benefit from salary mediation. However, the masked man did not exercise this right.

Last year, in his second NHL campaign, Magnitogorsk native maintained a .902 rate and an average of 2.69. Used for three playoff games, he has not won a single one. The “caps” fell on five games against the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs.

Samsonov was considered his club’s No. 1 goalie in 2020-2021, but Kovid-19 kept him away for a long time. His teammate Vitek Vanesek took the opportunity to demonstrate what he was doing. The two marbles will compete again in the upcoming Batman Tour campaign.

Shesterkin for four years

In the case of Chesterkin, he gained a little more stability than his Russian native. The New York Rangers gave him a four-year contract. According to journalist Frank Seravalli, the hockey player earned an annual salary of $ 5.65 million.

The 25-year-old played his first full season in the NHL in 2021. He averaged 16-14-3, 2.62 and .916. He finished fifth in the poll for the Calder Trophy, receiving the Rookie of the Year award.

Chesterkin agreed to a two-year deal in 2019, which earned him a total of $ 7.55 million. Prior to making his NHL debut, he dominated the Continental Hockey League (KHL) with the St. Petersburg SKA from 2016 to 2019.
