Our Bureau of Investigation revealed this morning that “hackers” were able to easily download the QR codes of at least six politicians and columnists, raising further doubts about vaccine passport security.
The government responded by filing a complaint with the police, the Ministry of Health and Social Services confirmed.
He reiterated that “QU code is secure” and that competent authorities will investigate and determine whether criminal charges are brought against them.
Prime Minister Franకోois Legalt, his Health Minister Christian Dubey and Digital Transformation Minister Eric Khair’s vaccine evidence were targeted. The latter, however, assured that the QR code could not be falsified or copied.
Reflection
In an interview with LCN, the minister agreed that the protection of the Cairo vaxicode application could be strengthened. Analyzing such as adding a password or limiting attempts to open a vaccine passport.
“It’s a reflection of what we do, for sure. But you have to understand the flaws that come with it,” said Eric Khair.
According to the minister, this is actually a common “impression” of a security breach.
However, by finding general information on the Internet (surname, first name, date of birth, type of vaccine received, date of vaccination) and health insurance number with encryption software, “hackers” can get your hands on valuable QR codes and related information.
“We feel sorry for people who make these kinds of gestures,” the minister said.
Another flaw raised by Radio-Canada on Friday was that it would be allowed to create a false QR code, Eric Khair also promised.
Correction requested
Opposition leaders in Quebec, along with star columnists and people from the municipal scene, were among the victims.
Of these, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois of Quebec Solidair wrote a letter to the Prime Minister asking him to resolve the error quickly.
“If we can not find a short – term solution to preserve the QR code of vaccine passports and qubasers,” a Goin member told LCN’s broadcast waves, “we should consider suspending or postponing passport expansion.”
He stated that “the technology is not ready to run.”
“The media is reporting an even worse problem. So we have to reassure the public.”
On Twitter, Health Minister Christian Dubey also reiterated that the QR code is secure.
“The QR code and the personal information contained therein will not be used without the consent of the individual. Violators will face civil / criminal prosecution,” he said.
