Large fires have been raging on the island of Anticosti since Friday morning, setting fire to the only garage with gas stations in Port-Manier, leaving dense black smoke.
It appears that a fire broke out on the roof of the building around 10:30 a.m. Friday. But about two hours later, Mayor Helen Boulanger said most of the garage had crashed.
“The fuel tanks are secured and they are unlikely to explode,” M saidMe Boulanger.
Due to the lack of a cellular network on Anticosty Island, it was not possible to speak with a firefighter.
However, although the fires were particularly impressive, no one was injured for the time being.
“The island is often windy. Fortunately, this is not the case today, it could be a catastrophe, ”the mayor added.
The fires did not fully subside until Friday afternoon.
Supply
As it is the only service station on the island of Anticosti, many questions remain regarding the supply of gasoline in the coming days. But Ms Boulanger suggests that this is a question that needs to be answered later.
“In the meantime, we urge people not to come near unnecessarily to go see the fire. There was a swirl of very black smoke. ”
