CHU de Québec is postponing thousands of appointments and closing operating rooms on Wednesday to treat a large number of COVID patients in hospitals in the area.
This reduction is necessary because about 800 staff are alone or ill.
No positive employee has come to work since Health Minister Christian Dubey suggested it was necessary to prevent further load shedding.
“We need to understand now that the elastic is very stretched and we see white in the middle,” said Martin Beaumont, founding president and CEO.
From January 5, operations in operating theaters will drop by 56 percent. Thus, approximately 300 surgeries are postponed each week.
This strategy allows 60 nurses to focus on the Kovid hotspots.
Also, nearly 10,000 non-essential face-to-face appointments can be postponed or made remotely. It empties almost 50 speakers.
“The current situation with regard to our workforce is huge. The challenge is great and our staff is now dedicated,” Mr Beaumont stressed.
He reminds the Quebecars to be patient and understand the situation.
The situation is difficult even in the Chowder-Appalachians.
A total of 71 COVIDs were hospitalized in CISSS, nine more than the day before. Two have risen since Saturday, including 14 patients in intensive care.
And the number of employees who were in isolation or tested positive was at about 800 yesterday. Some asymptomatic workers were able to return to work.
