The Legalt government hopes to “help your wallet” in the face of the rapidly rising cost of living, thanks to the final budget of its first mandate to be submitted on March 22nd.
“I am well aware that the rise in rents, groceries and gasoline prices is currently having a severe impact. Inflation is very high,” Prime Minister Franకోois Legalt admitted in a press conference on Tuesday.
“We’re going to help you, we’re going to help your wallet, because we know a lot of Quebecs are having trouble meeting their needs,” he said.
This will be the second time in a year that the Legal government has come forward to provide personal financial assistance to Cubans in the face of rising inflation. Eight out of 10 Cubans are worried about the exorbitant cost of living, according to a Leger poll released on Monday.
In his final mini-budget presented last November, Finance Minister Eric Girard chose to distribute checks ranging from $ 200 to $ 275 to low-income families. On Tuesday, he indicated he was now in favor of a “more general measure”.
Without evaporating, the inflation expected in 2022 is higher than his ministry’s recent estimates. The sudden arrival of the Omicron variant also weighs on growth expectations.
What’s more, the recent geopolitical tensions, including the emerging new conflict between Ukraine and Russia, have exacerbated the prospect of a decline in Quebec energy prices, Eric Girard points out.
