Beautiful projects follow each other for Karen Vanasse, who is currently filming Before the crash And who will soon undertake the English adaptation Plan b. But in the meantime, we can see the actress who played the game warden Emily in this movie on the big screen. Arsenal & Sons, A film that immerses us in the unique world of hunting and at the heart of family drama. Based in the Temiskovata area for this shoot, Kareen had the opportunity to bring her son to the set. For all parents, the work-family balance is at the heart of her concerns.

Kareen, Arsenal & Sons It gives us access to the world of hunting. Is it not a single universe?
Yes, and it was great when the movie invited us to enter a universe unknown to us. But Arsenal & Sons Not a documentary about hunting and hunting. (Editor’s note: In the film, Arsenalts, a close family, profited from poaching and were legal for several generations in a small village in Boss-du-Flu.) The film arouses curiosity: is it really in Quebec? It is interesting to me that the film addresses these issues.
This is an alien universe to you, I guess?
Absolutely. Hunting is a world unknown to me, just like game wardens. I had a lot of police around me, but no game wardens. The family dynamic in the film is also interesting. It was very worthwhile for me to be involved in this project designed by director Rafael Aullet. We met in the third season The blue moon. I’m proud of his return to the movies. This is the story he told over the years.
In which area of Quebec was the film shot?
We filmed in the Temiskovata area. We have been there for a long time for Guillaume (Syre) Bring his children and my son also comes to spend time with my parents. We are all together and it’s good for team spirit. We were immersed in the environment that raised the director. This story came from what he saw growing up.
Does the fact that you are able to include your family life in your plans or accept or reject a plan lead you?
Yes. Work-family balance is relevant to all of us, regardless of our profession. With Arsenal & Sons, I was able to bring my son there and show him the movie set. Raphael was also there with his daughter. My job as an actress is very abstract compared to others who are more concrete. So this is a great moment for us. I saw a lot of actors bringing their kids to the sets. Anyway this is a chance. A tray is a real ant. My son will see the end result in a few years, but he may have vague memories of what he saw. It was a pleasure to share this experience with him.
Announced Plan b Will be translated into English for the CBC Network and you will become a cast member.
Yes, and I’m very happy about it. This is the first time I have been involved in the implementation of the project. I have always been happy to be involved in glossy English Canadian projects internationally, but in addition, the concept evokes Quebec and enthusiasm. I will be touring with Patrick J. Adams.

Have you worked with him before or is this the first time?
No, I never toured with him. He was in Los Angeles and his friends were people I worked with or took classes with. I’m glad these universes are coming together. Until recently he was at a play on Broadway and I went to see him in New York. I will be shooting in English for the first time in Montreal. For work-family balance, that’s great too!
Is it still a concern?
Yes. In fact, actresses are often asked how to maintain work-life balance, but I believe this question is relevant to all mothers and parents. Everyone should do this gymnastics. My son attends daycare evening service as some parents work evenings or nights. Talking openly about this issue can really benefit us in any of our professions. These days, the facts often differ from the traditional 9 to 5. For my part, I was well rounded up for the time being and the schedule was well maintained.

Do you have other projects on the agenda?
We are spinning Before the crash, A series by Eric Bruno and Kim Lizot. They really formed a beautiful couple and get a strong entry with this first series. I was thrilled to be a part of it.
Can you take a summer vacation?
I live in Eastern Townships, so as soon as I land on Highway 10 I feel like I’re on vacation … (Smile) For now, I’m able to take advantage of it. The epidemic has caused many of us to take a closer look at what is happening in our area. We started promoting all kinds of programs. For my part, I found a really great restaurant: in Parcelles, Austin. Many businesses and activities flourished in the area. Lastly, there is no need to go too far to taste happiness on a daily basis.
What do you have left during this period?
I think it brought us back to a vulnerability common to all. When the sense of urgency subsides, what is left of it? What are we going to remember? I do not know. I have many friends who live in the same area as me. Right now, we already have a lot of time to spend with important people. I have not seen so many shows and plays lately. Is happy to seize these opportunities. Living together is so precious.
We know you are a great traveler. Have you had a chance to move recently?
Not really. I want to travel for work. For now, it’s not happening here anymore and it’s good. I had a few opportunities – I especially went to New York – and I’m glad I was able to do it. The joy of traveling without any landmarks. This means we are all open. You can enhance that feeling here by forcing yourself to be in a state of openness.
Do you want to introduce your son to the world?
Yes, but I also want to increase the openness in him on a daily basis. However, with the epidemic, he is unlikely to travel much, he has had interesting experiences on a variety of subjects.
