A snorkeler was injured by what appeared to be a shark in southwest England, the British Coastguard said on Tuesday, a rare incident in the country.

The British Sea and Coastguard Agency said in a statement that on July 28 a diver was treated for a “suspected shark bite”.
According to the agency, “the swimmer appears to have suffered a leg injury”. He was captured at the port of Penzance in Cornwall, South West England.
Despite the turn of events, “It’s unbelievable to see such majestic creatures and I don’t want this incident to tarnish the reputation of an already persecuted species,” the injured diver responded, according to the “Blue Shark Snorkel Trips” group on Tuesday. Organized a trip.

The blue shark is classified as a “Near Threatened” species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. It is prized for its meat and its fins are regularly caught in fishing nets.
