An agreement in principle has been reached between the Quebec government and school carriers to transport students at the start of the school year, the Center de Services Scolaire de Laval (CSSDL) announced Thursday evening.
“School carriers are committed to providing school transportation services to eligible students starting at the beginning of the academic year,” CSSDL said.
“It has been agreed with the carriers that school transportation must be provided from the beginning of the school year, regardless of where you are in Quebec,” Quebec said in another press release.
The Ministry of Education first announced the first agreement in principle on August 19.
The Federation of Public Service Employees (FEESP-CSN) spoke on Saturday about the rejection of the contract by school carriers, a few days before the start of the school year, many still have not signed the contract.
The Minister of Education, Jean-Francois Roberge, was relieved by providing transport for all children.
“I salute the remarkable efforts of all parties who contributed to its conclusion,” the minister said. It is a real relief to confirm that our students and their parents can benefit from school transport.
