Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the mothers of Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine on Friday, but an investigation by a military historian revealed that the meeting took place.

In front of the cameras, Putin promised to “share the pain” of these women, but according to Cedric Moss, president of the Action Resilience Institute, “many women were invited […] There are also ministry employees, actresses and elected officials of Putin’s regime.
The historian points to the example of a woman who participated in a meeting where a portrait of her son, who was killed in Ukraine, was displayed. The only problem is that old footage shows the man was killed long before the start of the Russian invasion of the separatist region of Luhansk in 2019.
Among other women around the table, French media BFMTV highlights the presence of Nadezhda Uzunova, president of the pro-Putin association, as well as Olga Beltseva, a member of the “United Russia” party.
In September, when Moscow illegally annexed four Ukrainian regions, Uzunova gave a patriotic speech at a ceremony in Red Square.
“Our soldiers must protect us and we mothers must unite behind them to promote victory,” she said.
