The difference with the homeless people’s last stay at the Montcombe Motel is that, last time, the project was overseen by Gait Amy. This time CISSSO is fully responsible for 40 posts.

The apartment has beds for select people who can move towards autonomy and space.

CISSSO teams will be on site to support users.

The Quebec government is providing $1.6 million in aid for motel spaces. However, when the homeless data for the Outaouais was released in September, the amount was far less than what the CEO of the CISSSO had requested. We are talking about a 268% increase in homeless people in Outaouais in 4 years. The CEO demanded $3.4 million.

“It’s not enough, that’s for sure. […] We will go there based on the financial ability of the government, then Mr Carmont in relation to the budget he can go to the Treasury Board. We are going to work with it,” emphasized Yves St-Onge, Interim President and CEO of the CISSS de l’Outois.

Another measure already announced is the addition of a trailer to the Robert-Guertin Arena parking lot for the winter season starting November 15.

The trailer serves as a resting place for people outside, so it’s a sort of preparatory arrival.

The interim CEO of CISSSO assured that anyone sleeping outside this winter will do so by choice.

Louis Sabourin, head of the city’s homeless file, welcomed the addition of both measures.

He doesn’t believe there will be an outcry about homeless people returning to the Montcalm Motel.

Two more trailers may also be installed in the city, but details are yet to be confirmed.

They are smaller than those installed in the Robert-Guertin Arena.
