Nearly 100,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles recalled in Canada for safety issues

Toyota is issuing a safety recall for certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles manufactured between 2020 and 2022.

In Canada, 99,965 vehicles are affected by the recall.

The manufacturer’s concern relates to the Occupant Classification System (OCS) found in the front passenger seat and may have been compromised by a manufacturing defect.

The short circuit impairs the sensitivity of the seat, which can no longer properly classify the weight of the occupant and does not trigger the deployment of the airbag as expected during certain collisions.

Here is the list of affected vehicles.

Toyota:

Avalon, Avalon Hybrid: 2020 – 2021

Camry, Camry Hybrid: 2020 – 2022

Flowering: 2020 – 2021

Highlander, Highlander Hybrid: 2020 – 2021

RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid: 2020 – 2021

Sienna Hybrid: 2021

Lexus:

ES250: 2021

ES300H: 2020 – 2022

ES350: 2020 – 2021

RX350: 2020 – 2021

RX450h: 2020 – 2021

For all affected vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the OCS sensors and, if necessary, replace them at no cost to owners, Toyota promised.

Toyota will notify affected owners of this issue by mid-February 2024.
