An Air Canada flight from Montreal to Lyon, France was forced to make an emergency landing before reaching its destination due to a technical problem on Friday.
After a nearly three-hour flight, the plane over Newfoundland and Labrador was forced to turn around after an indicator stopped, French media reported.
If there is a problem maintaining cabin pressure, the aircraft may have to return to Montreal airport. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner continued its return flight at an altitude of 10,000 feet, rather than the normal 30,000 for this type of aircraft.
“Our aeronautical engineering and maintenance experts are inspecting the aircraft in accordance with our standard operating procedures, prioritizing the landing as a precautionary measure,” Air Canada said, according to CTV News. The flight had been in the air for just under five hours.
The 254 passengers on Air Canada Flight 876 boarded another flight Saturday to Lyon with a stopover in Paris. However, French media reported that passengers were left to fend for themselves while waiting for the next flight, with some being left without accommodation overnight.
