The activists, who are as young as fourteen, according to Animal Rebellion, sit at tables reserved for customers and print “fictitious menus” indicating the environmental cost of the food on the menu, the group explained in a press release.

“Among the dishes, we found veal and steaks, which are among the foods with the largest carbon footprint and use the most land for breeding,” criticized Animal Rebellion.

The restaurant had to close early on Saturday evening after the activists refused to leave.

It was a “perfect example” of inequality in the United Kingdom, condemned Lucia Alexander, a 39-year-old nurse who took part in the restaurant’s occupation.

“While Gordon Ramsay provides meals costing at least £155 (178 euros) per person, more than two million people are dependent on food banks because of this cost-of-living crisis,” she said.

“Instead of making huge profits for restaurants at the expense of animals, workers and our environment, everyone should be fed by supporting farmers and fishermen in the transition to a plant-based food system,” she stressed.

A restaurant spokesperson condemned the act as “grossly disrespectful”.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs,” she said. “However, it is very inappropriate to barge into a restaurant, disturb the hardworking staff and ruin the evening of customers who have waited months for their reservation,” she criticized.
