A new case of avian flu has been discovered in Amagne

A new case of highly contagious avian influenza H5N8 was confirmed on March 19 against a stork in the town of Amagne. This is the third case found in wildlife in the Ardennes section since the beginning of this year. The H5N8 virus is not transmitted to humans and is actively transmitted by birds to wildlife in Europe. To prevent the spread, a restricted zone (temporary control zone) within a radius of 5 km was established around the spot where the stork was found.

Strict health measures for 17 municipalities

There should be strict sanitary measures with restrictions on movements on poultry and their products. This regulation affects Zone 17 municipalities: Mont-Laurent, Thagni-Tragney, Coosey, Sorsey-Bouthemont, Salses-Monklin, Salsసెస్s-Champenois, Ambly-Flerie, Amagne, Givri, Lakvi, Novi-Chevriers, Fox Et-Sassouil, Dox, Aboncourt-Wazels, Rethel and Seoul.

Health visits will be conducted this week at all commercial establishments. This new case reminds us of the importance of respecting biosecurity measures, especially in the private backyard, in the fight against the spread of the virus: poultry, vigilance and alert detention in the event of deaths and unusual clinical signs.

As a reminder, avian influenza is not transmitted to humans by consuming meat, eggs, fatty liver and any food product in general.
