A new ultra-low-cost carrier is coming to Montreal-Trudeau

A new ultra-low-cost carrier is coming to Montreal-Trudeau

Alberta low-cost carrier Lynx Air announced Wednesday it will serve Montreal with two routes starting in June.

The connections, which will begin on June 5, will make it possible to fly from Montreal-Trudeau Airport to Calgary or Saint John.

“We are excited to add the vibrant city of Montreal to the Lynx Air network as summer approaches. Although Montreal is a very popular destination, it is currently underserved by low-cost carriers and Lynx wants to address this,” explained Lynx Air CEO Merren McArthur.

A passenger who wants to take a round trip to Calgary or Montreal with LynxAir can expect to pay around $115, including taxes, in regular fares, without baggage. However, adding suitcases or even cabin baggage can quickly add to the bill.

By comparison, a similar flight between Montreal and Calgary in June would cost between $450 and $500, plus extra costs to check baggage, we found by simulating a flight reservation on the carrier’s site.

WestJet, for its part, offers Montreal-Calgary round trip without checked baggage at around $300.

Formerly known as Energet, Lynx Air aims to develop ultra-low-cost flights within Canada and to some American destinations. The carrier operates a small fleet of Boeing-737s.
