Amazon's new headquarters in Washington: Memorial spiral staircase worn in nature

E-commerce giant Amazon on Tuesday unveiled the “nature-inspired” structure of the second propeller-shaped headquarters in the suburbs of Washington.

The monument, a 22-story spiral staircase overlooking a body of water near the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia, features hanging gardens, a metaphor for a “physical space conducive to the pollination of ideas.” Amazon is an ad.

It is the headquarters of a group of three buildings known as the “Penn Place” and the group’s second headquarters, originally in Seattle, Washington (western).

The 260,000-square-meter office complex represents an investment of $ 2.5 billion and is expected to bring 25,000 new jobs to the area over the next ten years.

John Scotler, vice president of the group for real estate installations, said with its “double helix” structure, “this unique structure includes two footpath landscapes that revolve around the building, with gardens ‘can be found hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia’.

The new headquarters, designed by the American architectural firm NBBJ, also hosts artists at the residence. For the staff, it “promotes well-being and physical exercise,” the manager said.

The building is 100% solar powered and air conditioned.

After a long suspense and an increase in tax benefits offered by candidate cities, Amazon chose this site for its new base in 2017, which led to controversy.

Along with Virginia, the Seattle group also chose a site in New York that was eventually abandoned after political conflicts.
