Bad weather kills 20 in mountain race in China

At least 20 people have been killed in a 100-kilometer mountain run that was suddenly damaged by severe weather conditions in northwest China, local officials said Sunday.

At least 1:00 pm on Saturday in Gansu Province, 20 people were killed and at least one was missing, according to a newspaper report. Boyne city officials suggested.

At 1 a.m. Saturday through Sunday, New China reported that “hail, freezing rain and blizzard hit the high race,” according to which the temperature dropped sharply.

“At 3am on Sunday, 151 participants were safe, five of whom sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized,” she said, adding that 172 competitors were taking part in the race.

The People’s daily Part of it provided a slightly different estimate, with 15 reported dead and 6 missing.

The Yellow River Stone Forest is a natural site famous for its four billion year old rock formations, and is often used for movies or TV shows in China.

The site is located in Gansu Province, one of the poorest areas in China, bordering Xinjiang Province and Mongolia. The province has been hit by deadly earthquakes, floods and landslides several times in the past.
