Two community organizations dedicated to Greater Montreal's population of Chinese origin have launched legal action against the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for alleged defamation.

In March 2023, the RCMP referred the Bureau of Investigation Newspaper She is investigating two organizations, the Chinese Family Service of Greater Montreal and Center-Sino-Québec, led by Brossard municipal councilor Xixi Li. These two establishments are suspected of being “Chinese police stations” like other establishments in Toronto. and Vancouver.
A year later, the two firms counterattacked by demanding more than $4.9 million in damages.
“We hope this legal action will help restore the reputation of our organizations, which suffered severe damage following the RCMP allegations,” Xixi Li, director general of both organizations, commented in a press release.
She acknowledged that the application to initiate the process, filed in Quebec's Superior Court, will force the RCMP to negotiate with the organizations.
“I hope that the filing of the proceedings will lead to an effective dialogue between my clients and the RCMP so that their reputations and the damage they have suffered can be quickly repaired. My clients hope to settle the matter amicably, but are prepared to go to trial if necessary, argued attorney Maryse Lapointe.
