Controversial "fast fashion" brand SHEIN is coming to Montreal

Chinese online fashion retailer SHEIN, which has been heavily criticized for the environmental impact of its business model, will try to woo Montreal consumers next week.

A pop-up shopping experience where citizens can purchase products on site will be held from July 27 to 30 at Quartier DIX30 in Brossard. An opportunity for the Chinese giant to showcase its fashion apparel as well as its latest accessories.

“Now Montreal residents and visitors will have the opportunity to explore Sheen’s incredible selection in person,” Sheen said in a statement.

Keep in mind that the brand, created in China in 2008, has been the target of numerous allegations of forced labor and exploitation, allegations that SHEIN has systematically denied.

The retailer also found itself in the crosshairs of NGO Friends of the Earth, which in a report denounced the environmental consequences of the overproduction of clothing by companies such as SHEIN.

“The least expensive clothes, sold by signs Fast fashionOn average, it is only worn 7 to 8 times,” the company said, reported TVA Nouvelles.

The event hosted by SHEIN at Quartier DIX30 in Brassard will open at the same time as the mall.
