“If conditions change in Europe a few weeks ago, unfortunately not only for people, families and the elderly, but also for our health system, we could find ourselves in a very critical situation,” warned Jean, the new federal minister of health. Yves Duclos.

According to Mr. Duclos’ environmental experts, two factors could influence the further increase in the number of cases in the country.

The first is related to public behavior, the health minister explained, adding that with the onset of winter, Canadians will often be indoors and have more frequent contact, which increases the risk of the virus spreading.

“The second thing is the evolution of fatigue, and standards related to public health measures, such as wearing a mask, physical distance, and hand washing,” continues Jean-Yves Duclos.

However, he noted that Canadians are currently “doing the right thing, making the right choices.”

The new health minister believes that respiratory viruses, such as winter influenza, “complicate health management for families, children and the elderly as well.”
