“We continue to actively investigate the cause of this issue. We take our customers’ privacy very seriously and will continue to provide updates,” confirmed Log Denise Kenney, public relations officer for the carrier.

According to WestJet, the only victims of the leak, which took place on Wednesday evening for about 40 minutes, were customers using its application.

“worrying”

The disclosed data is, in most cases, the name, telephone number, street address, email, date of birth of the customers and the amount of money accumulated in points for traveling with WestJet.

“When I opened my app, I was able to get information from 30 people I didn’t know across Canada,” Blainville resident Ronald Brisson said Wednesday.

Ronald Brisson, a Blainville resident, was the victim of the WestJet leak.

The latter also exposed its data for all to see on Wednesday.

“It’s worrying that you don’t know into whose hands my information will end up. After that, it leads to fraud,” says Mr. Brisson.

As per our information, however, the customer’s bank details have not been disclosed.

Mme Kenny also did not disclose whether the data breach was confined to Canada.

In social networks, News magazine Wednesday night found dozens of posts from carrier customers complaining about the leak.
