Like any responsible business, supermarkets study the behavior of their customers and often use these tips.
1. One-way doors
Entrances to grocery stores are usually one-way. Once inside, indeed, there is no question of turning back. The customer is not imprisoned, but must follow a certain path – sometimes filled with special offers – to get to the exit.
2. First impressions count!
Many grocery stores welcome their customers with flowers. According to CNN, the idea is to let users know they’ve just arrived at a “cool, happy place.”
4. The Milky Way
Have you ever stopped by the grocery store for a regular pint of milk? You know this food rarely appears at the commercial entrance, in fact it is almost always at the bottom.
Also, the user may be tempted by other products.
5. Central aisle
CNN reports that the center aisles, where branded items are found, are the most profitable.
That is why products like cereals and coffee are kept in the center aisle.
However, they often place this in the middle of the aisle so that customers, regardless of the direction they take, are exposed to as many products as possible.
6. Fill it in!
Shopping carts have doubled in size in just a few decades. Smaller ones are harder to find.
According to CNN, this strategy is voluntary because when humans take responsibility for the hole, they must emotionally fill it.
