Domestic travel: Vaccine passport is possible from October

Union Health Minister Patty Hajdu said on Friday that proof of vaccination was required from passengers on trains and planes by the end of October.

“As far as I understand, the Department of Transportation believes this will be possible in Canada by the end of October,” she said.

The obligation to present such proof applies to anyone who is eligible for a vaccine against COVID-19, i.e. Canadians 12 years of age and older.

Minister Hajdu could not provide further details on the matter as the government agency is still improving its policy.

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra first announced the introduction of the measure in the summer. At the time, Mr Alghabra was already targeting October to implement the policy.

Currently, the mask is mandatory for everyone traveling on public transport in Canadian provinces.

If you want to believe the Liberal government’s promise in the general election, if you have no medical exception, double vaccination to board trains and ships on domestic tours is the only way to travel. In fact, the government has ruled out the possibility of speeding tests for unvaccinated passengers before boarding.
