“There’s nothing I hate like rats,” he promised his fellow citizens on Twitter on Thursday: “Your dream job is waiting for you. »

According to a solid urban legend, there are as many rats as there are people in New York, or about nine million. Famous English novelist Charles Dickens complained about the city when he visited it in 1842.

Nearly two centuries later, the “ideal candidate” for Wednesday’s job offer should be “highly motivated, bloodthirsty, determined to examine all solutions from different angles, particularly operational efficiency, data collection, technological innovation, waste management and the streets of New York and Large-scale culling of these pests spreading in subways”.

New York’s thunderous mayor, a center-right African-American Democratic elected official, offers an annual salary of $120,000 to $170,000 to “achieve the impossible” with a “vehement distaste for insects” and a “reputation for ringworm.”

Town Hall requires a bachelor’s degree, first-hand experience in urban planning and project management, and above all “the determination and killer instinct to fight the real enemy: New York’s relentless rat population.”

Spending millions of dollars, the municipality regularly tries new methods to exterminate rats, such as dry ice or alcohol baths: this was demonstrated in 2019, during an unsustainable demonstration, during the days of the mayor of the Brooklyn borough… Already Mr. Adams.

In 2021, after the pandemic, a private association of Manhattan residents called RATS organized a hunt with their dogs to kill as many rats as possible.
